Prof. skilled Dr. Eduardas Tarasevičius- an extraordinary personality who left a big mark on the national and global community of pharmacists. He was the president of the Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Union for a long time, but in 2021 July 30 we had to say goodbye to him.

Prof. Habil Dr. The life of Eduard Tarasevičius

Eduardas Tarasevičius was born in 1942. August 25 In the village of Baltakiškii, Pastovi district, Vitebsk region, Belarus. Parents were farmers. He attended primary school in Anykščiai district, Michionys, where his married sister lived.

 

in 1959 graduated from Vilnius 7th secondary school.

 

1959-1964 he studied at the Kaunas Medical Institute at the Faculty of Pharmacy, obtained a provisional diploma, and worked for several months as the manager of the Turgelia pharmacy.

 

1964-1967 – post-graduate studies (doctoral equivalent) at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Lviv Medical Institute.

 

Since 1967 worked as an assistant in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Kaunas Medical Institute, a year later he was appointed head teacher, 1972 awarded the pedagogical title of docent; 1972-1983 – Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry; 1976-1989 – Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; in 1990 He defended his habilitation thesis at the Moscow Sechenov Medical Academy; since 1998 he was given the pedagogical title of professor.

 

Under the guidance of the professor, six doctoral students successfully defended their doctoral theses in pharmaceutical science. The scientist was an intern at the universities of Greifswald (1972), Zurich (1975), Kharkiv (1985), Boston (1992). With Assoc. Dr. Alfons Kaikaris founded the Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Museum at the Kaunas Medical Institute. 1970-1990 - Chairman of the Scientific Society of Pharmacists (RFMD).

 

in 1990 October 13 RFMD was reformed into the Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Union (LFS), whose long-term president, until today, was prof. skilled Dr. Eduardas Tarasevičius.

 

The professor was: an honorary member of the American Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Association; Honorary member of pharmaceutical societies of Latvia (1993), Estonia (1994), Slovakia (1996) and Poland (2008). 1991-1994 Chairman of the Lithuanian Pharmacopoeia Committee, since 1994. international pharmacopoeia expert; 1991-2021 editor of the specialized scientific journal Lithuanian pharmaceutical news.

 

Thanks to the professor's efforts, Lithuania was admitted to the International Pharmaceutical Federation and the European Union Pharmaceutical Affairs Group.

 

The main area of his scientific work is the synthesis and analysis of new biologically active compounds. The results of scientific work are reflected in more than 150 scientific publications, 20 of which were published in the form of copyright certificates (patents). Together with the co-authors, he prepared and published 20 educational publications.

 

The researcher has been evaluated for the following merits to pharmaceutical science, studies and practice on a national and international scale: he was awarded the title of Lithuanian meritorious health worker, awarded with the Lithuanian health worker's badge of honor; The Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Union appreciated his work, granting him the title of Honorary Member of the Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Union (2020) and awarding Prof. JF Wolfgang Memorial Medal (2019).

Farewell

With the loss of this wonderful person at the end of July, the farewell will take place from August 3rd. 4 p.m. St. In the armory hall of Peter and Paul Church, Paco st. 4, Vilnius. The urn will be removed on August 4. at 2 p.m.

The professor will be laid to rest in the Rokantiškii cemetery.

August 4 9 o'clock a holy mass will be offered for the deceased at the Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Church, J. Matulaitis Square 3, Vilnius.

After the news spread about the departure of this pharmacist, Lithuanian and foreign pharmacist communities expressed their condolences.
